FRIDAY
MUSIC: Ani DiFranco at Neighborhood Theatre
All Events

McColl Center for Visual Arts latest exhibition, Joyce Scott: Recall, looks pretty damn cool. Take one look at the heavily beaded pieces included in the exhibition and you’ll be either curious or a little weirded out. Either way, thoughts will prevail while eyeing these pieces of works, all of which were inspired by American history and Scott's heritage, a blend of African-American, American Indian and Scottish. Focusing on issues such as racism and sexism, the materials used in the exhibition even have a deeper meaning, as beads played a role in the course of slaves being purchased from Africa and in Manhattan being purchased by the Dutch from Native Americans. Continues through March 20. Tuesday-Saturday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. McColl Center for Visual Art, 721 N. Tryon St. 704-332-5535. www.mccollcenter.org. - Anita Overcash
