Within 15 minutes of its doors opening for the first time, Zada Jane's Corner Café was packed, according to owner Roger Raymer. About two weeks old now, this Plaza Midwood restaurant serves breakfast and lunch, with breakfast going all day. The menu is geared toward a healthier lifestyle: drug-free meat products, organic when feasible, vegan-friendly and vegetarian-friendly. Having all ABC licenses, you can find your Sunday morning mimosa here. For coffee lovers, Raymer says that "Mickey D's and Mr. Bucks' [as in Starbucks] plan for world domination stops here" with a full coffee bar and a barista on staff. If nothing else, head over to Zada Jane's to play shuffleboard. Yes, shuffleboard.

I guess "vegan-friendly" in NC means, "sure, we have something you can eat." If this is the best place Charlotte has to offer for vegetarian dining, as picked by both CL critics and readers, then it's a good thing more alternatives to Harris Teeter are opening.

We ate there last night and as always the food was fantastic. You feel healthy, happy and satisfied after a meal there. Going there really makes me feel really good!

I had lunch there in early February with a business associate and everything about the place was right--the atmosphere, the service, the food, the location. This is the epitome of a hip, urban restaurant with an innovative menu and good energy from everyone involved, including the customers. I had the Gobbler and it was wonderful. Owner Roger Raymer is very personable and eager to share his support of local farmers, fresh food, and fair-trade products, all for a happier and healthier planet.
